By integrating classroom learning with real-world work, CPTC’s Work-Study programs offer eligible students the opportunity to gain valuable work experience while earning money for college.
Work-Study eligibility is determined through the Student Aid & Scholarships Application Process.
After a student receives a 'Work Study Offer', the next step is to attend a Work Study Orientation.
Work-study funding is limited and is awarded on a first-come, first-serve basis.
Students should apply as early as possible!
Work Study Orientations
Alternate between in-person & online sessions
IN PERSON: 1st Wednesday of each month: Bldg. 19, Conference Room 124
ZOOM: 3rd Wednesday each month: Join by Zoom
Orientations will NOT be held in these situations:
Staff shortage or illness. On days when classes are not in session. First week of each quarter. Month of May/June
Students unable to attend these times may contact finaid@cptc.edu to request a scheduled orientation.
Finding a Job
CPTC Work Study positions are posted on https://joinhandshake.com .
Students may also seek employment on-campus by visiting faculty & staff for potential placements.
CPTC cannot guarantee that each student will be placed in a work-study position.
Bring the completed hire packet to the Student Aid & Scholarships office in Building 17.
You are unable to begin work until receiving notification from HR/Payroll and/or Student Aid.
Work-First Students
Students who receive Temporary Aid to Needy Families (TANF) through the state's Work-First program may fulfill their work requirement through Work-First Work-Study at CPTC.
This option does not count against your temporary assistance grant (though it does affect any food assistance you may be receiving).
For more information on availability call Kate Wendland, Workforce Development Program Manager, at 253-583-8767 or kate.wendland@cptc.edu.
Veterans
To be eligible for work-study as a veteran, you must:
- Be a veteran who is currently using your benefits.
- Be enrolled for 9 to 11 credits (part-time) or for at least 12 credits (full-time).
- Be enrolled in a program approved by Veterans' Affairs.
Once approved for work-study, you must take a job that involves direct service to other veterans. Clover Park Technical College offers a few jobs that meet this requirement.
For more info contact the Clover Park Technical College’s Veterans Certified Official at 253-589-5581.
Can I work off-campus? YES!
Off-campus work locations must be related to the student's educational plan and be approved through The Washington Student Achievement Council (WSAC) first.
After the position has been authorized and a completed hiring packet has been turned in, the employer and student will be notified (email) when they may start.
Same restrictions apply to off-campus students: Have completed the financial aid application process. Be enrolled for at least 6 credits. Cannot work during class times.
