Dear CPTC students,
As we move into Spring quarter and many of you start to anticipate graduation, I am writing to update you on CPTC's plans for the 2021 Commencement Ceremony.
The arrival of vaccines puts hope for a return to normalcy on the horizon for our community, but we're not yet at the point where it's safe to meet in large, enclosed venues. In light of event capacity limits from the Washington State Department of Health, CPTC has opted to once again host a drive –through-style celebration of graduates on the Lakewood campus.

Congratulations on your academic achievement! You have come to the right place as you look at the necessary steps to complete and participate in the 2021 Celebration of Graduates! Make sure you read all this information thoroughly and follow each of the steps noted below.
As the date nears, additional information about the event will be posted to this website and sent by email to graduates who have registered their attendance.
Steps to Complete and Celebrate
Step 1: Verify Your Transcript
In order to receive your certificate or degree you must complete a Degree/Certificate Application. This step is crucial as it communicates with our credentials evaluator that CPTC needs to go through your transcripts and verify that we can award you your degree or certificate.
Students can complete this Degree/Certificate Application the 4th week of the quarter you will complete your program or certificate. Completing your Graduation Award Application does not register you to participate in the 2021 Celebration of Graduates, please proceed to Step 2 to register for the celebration.
Step 2: Register for the June 22 Celebration
The 2021 Celebration of Graduates will be on Tuesday, June 22 at Lakewood Campus of Clover Park Technical College from 4-6p. Graduates who sign up to participate in the June 22 Celebration of Graduates will receive a box including a diploma cover, cap and 2021 tassel, print program, and additional commemorative items. The Class of 2021 will be invited to participate in a future commencement ceremony.
While the College will not hold a commencement ceremony this year due to the ongoing public health crisis, finding an alternative way to celebrate the accomplishments this spring is important to everyone, so we’ve created an event to recognize the Class of 2021 on June 22.
Students who will complete a certificate or degree in Summer or Fall 2021 are eligible to participate in the celebration on June 22, though their name will not appear in the official printed materials; it will appear in next year's program. They may register for a gift box.
How to Celebrate
- If you choose, decorate your vehicle! Signs, balloons, window paint, streamers.
- Invite as many members of your "quaran-team" (friends and family) to join you that safely fit in the vehicle. They were with you every step of the way and now they get to cross the finish line with you.
- Take photos in your cap and tassel (that we provide) with your "quaran-team" and use #CPTCGrad2021 when posting to social media.
- Graduates will receive a box including a diploma cover, cap and 2021 tassel, print program, and additional commemorative items.
Cap & Gown Details
A cap and tassel will be provided in the gift box that all students who pre-registered for one. The gift box will be available for pick-up on June 22. If students want to purchase their own cap and gown, we recommend a black or matte black color.
On June 22, graduates should arrive to pick up their gift box at the Lakewood Campus, located at 4500 Steilacoom Boulevard SW in Lakewood no earlier than 4pm.
Due to the number of cars expected on campus during the event, graduates should adhere to the pick-up time selected at time of event registration. Please note, the pick-up area will close and the celebration will end promptly at 6:00 that evening.
