Student WiFi

We recently updated our campus WiFi network with newer, faster equipment. Below are instructions for accessing the new network.

Student WiFi Account Activation

In an effort to get new students wireless access as quick as possible, they have been issued a unique password within 24 hours of registration. What this means to our students is that they don't need to go to the library lab and wait in a long line to establish a wifi account.

Username: Student username is composed of their last name (in lowercase letters) as recorded in the Registrar's office, and the last four digits of their CPTC Student ID number (not their social security number). ie; smith1234 (Last Name: smith, SID: 975861234)

Password format: cptcddMmmyyyy Example: a student who was born on June 10, 1999, their password would be: cptc10Jun1999 (letters are all lowercase, except for the first letter of the 3 character month)

If a new or returning student has already been to the library and reset their password in a previous quarter AND they don't remember it, then they will need to go to a kiosk, located in B23 (ASG), the library lab (B15 RM 104), or South Hill Campus lobby and reset it.

Student WiFi Account Reset

  1. You can reset your Wi-Fi password at one of the following locations:
    • A. Learning Resource Center Computer Lab (building 15)
    • C. South Hill Campus
  2. Your password will expire every 120 days.

Password Requirements

  • Passwords must be a minimum of 10 characters in length.
  • Passwords must contain at least one character from three of the following categories:
    • Uppercase characters
    • Lowercase characters
    • Base 10 digits (0 through 9)
    • Non-alphanumeric characters:    ~!@#$%^&*_-+=`|\(){}[]:;"'<>,.?/
  • Passwords may not contain your user name as a word, although letters from your name are allowed.

Connecting to the Student WiFi Network

  1. In your WiFi network management area on your device, connect to the “Student” network.
  2. If you are prompted to enter a username and password, enter the username and password you created in the above steps.
  3. If you are not prompted to enter a username and password, then open your internet browser.
  4. Your browser should be redirected to the Aruba WiFi login page.
  5. Enter your WiFi account credentials, just like step 2 above.
  6. You should now be able to access the internet.

If you get a certificate security warning, please make sure you continue to the website and allow the exception. If you don’t, your device may block access to our WiFi network.
