Peer Mentor

About the Peer Mentoring Center

The Peer Mentoring Center creates a campus-wide culture of peer mentorship aimed at improving persistence and completion rates for all students, including those who are first-generation, students of color, students with disabilities, single-parent students, and low-income students. We approach every student with empathy, kindness, and a genuine desire to help them succeed.

Our goal is to partner with students on achieving their career dreams. We value diverse backgrounds, perspectives, and identities, and are committed to fostering a safe and inclusive environment for all.

How can I get a Peer Mentor?

Any student can schedule a meeting with a Peer Leader—there’s no registration form, and it’s free! All you need to do is go to https://bit.ly/CPTCMeetWithYourMentor and find a time to meet with a mentor.

Although you can meet with any mentor, we have Peer Mentors who are generally assigned to specific majors. Click here to learn more about our Majestic Mentors!

What do we offer?

  •  1:1 peer mentor support (in-person, Zoom, or on the phone)

  • Referral services

  • Peer Mentoring Center amenities (open computers, study space, donated shelf-stable food).

  • Events and presentations for all students that focus on equity and college navigational skills.

  • Student leadership and employment

Strategic Plan

CPTC's Diversity Factbook indicates that there are persistent equity gaps amongst marginalized students in the areas of access, retention, and completion.  As the College engages the campus community as part of its commitment to work towards the advancement of equitable education outcomes, the work of the Peer Mentoring Center strengthens the College's commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Our Approach

The Peer Mentoring Center uses an evidence-based, data-driven, high-touch approach to create opportunities for all students that support navigational capital and skills from the initial days on campus through program completion.

We know that peer mentoring works! Higher education research supports the importance of peer mentoring programs in colleges and universities. Peer mentoring programs help tackle inequalities and increase student support and persistence for first-year students, especially students who come from low-income communities (Chajet et al., 2023; Higginson et al., 2025). Additionally, peer-to-peer interactions increase first-year students’ social and cultural capital skills on campus (McCallen & Johnson, 2020).

Location: Building 16, Room 101 (right next to the “You Belong Here” mural, across from Building 11).

Hours: Monday through Thursday, 10 am - 4 pm.
