Media Design & Production
Introduction
Welcome to the Media Design & Production Program at CPTC! This program page website was built through a joint effort by instructors and students as a way for you to explore our program from the comfort of your home. You will find many examples of the work of our students as you explore these pages, but to really get a feel for what we do here, please come and visit us in person.
Orientations are normally held at 3:00 p.m. on the second and fourth Wednesdays of each month. Orientations are held in Building 11. During the orientation, faculty will provide information about what is taught in the program, what fees are required, what books and supplies are needed, the job outlook and employment information. Faculty will discuss program entrance requirements and prerequisites, and an estimate of the next available start date.
We have a lot of fun in the Media Design field, but we also work very hard. We specialize in taking creative people and training them to apply that creativity to the business world. If you are a frustrated artist, or working at a job that does not value your creative mind or your eye for color, come see us. We will take that creativity and help you channel it into skills that will prepare you for careers in the exciting Media Design field.
If you are are interested in gaming, photography, video or web design, we have classes that specialize in those fields. Many of our students come to us because they are passionate about their hobbies: skateboarding, snow boarding, photography, painting and drawing... etc. They've taught themselves how to shoot video or still photos of their hobbies and have learned to share those videos or photos online through myspace or youtube. They come to us because they want to take their skills to the next level using our state of the art photography & video studios, our Avid editing suites, 3D Studio Max expertise, or to explore the mysteries of ecommerce programming.
You can pursue a two year Associate of Technology Degree, or complete a one year Certificate in your specialty area. Students who take the two year degree path spend their first year exploring the Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, Dreamweaver, Flash, Premier, Encore and After Effects). Students also take general design classes which include basic drawing (with pencil and paper) and Visual Thinking. First year students also take classes in Digital Photography, Camera and Lighting, and Videography. At the end of the first year, students create an interactive DVD featuring all of their work up to that point in the program along with a four foot display board featuring printouts of their best work from their photography and Adobe Creative Suite projects. If you come to our orientations, you can walk our hallway with an instructor and see all the beautiful work created by our students.
During the second year, students choose to specialize in one of three specialty areas:
You can find a list of the classes, credits and clock hours on the main CPTC website.
A special thanks to students Katie Cunningham, Kris Quistorf, Mike Sweeten and Teresa Scott for helping to build this website. All photos were taken by Media Design students. |
