Policy Process

Timelines will be flexible if they occur over a holiday period.

  1. A policy sponsored by a direct-report level staff member, is posted online for comments and discussion. An email is sent to all staff and faculty.
  2. After 10 calendar days an open forum is held by sponsor and subject-matter experts for comments or discussion. Minutes will be taken.
  3. After 14 calendar days online comments are closed and the Direct Reports make one of three decisions:
    1. Continue online comment period.
    2. Revise the policy.
      1. After the policy is revised, it's reposted for a 7-day comment period.
      2. After 7 calendar days, the Direct Reports discuss the policy. If approved, it is forwarded to the College President for final decision.
    3. Move forward.
    4. If the Direct Reports determine that no revision is necessary, the policy is sent to the College President for final decision.

  1. A procedure sponsored by a direct-report level staff member, is posted online for comments and discussion. An email is sent to all staff and faculty.
  2. After 7 calendar days online comments are closed and the Direct Reports make one of three decisions:
    1. Continue online comment period.
    2. Revise the procedure.
      1. After the procedure is revised, it's reposted for a 7-day comment period.
      2. After 7 calendar days, the Direct Reports discuss the procedure. If approved, it is signed by the direct-report level staff member.
    3. Move forward.
      1. If the Direct Reports determine that no revision is necessary, the procedure is signed by the direct-report level staff member.

General Rubric for Decision to Move Policy or Procedure Forward

All comments will be assigned to one of three categories:

  1. Clarification
  2. Negative
  3. Positive

If the comments received in the negative category exceed 25% of all comments categorized as positive or negative, the policy will be revised automatically.

All other decisions on proceeding with the proposed policy remain at the discretion of the Direct Reports.
