International Admissions

Follow these easy steps to become an international student at CPTC:

  1. Fill out an admissions application and submit with the following documents:

    a)   Bank statement(s) showing sufficient funds available for the first year of your studies. The cost of studies varies by the program. Please contact us for more information.

    b)  Other supporting documents (see the application packet cover page for the list of required documents).

    c)   Enclose the $50.00 (USD) non-refundable application fee, which you can pay with bank check, money order or credit card payment with authorized signature. 

    d)  A small color photo of your headshot.

    e)   A short essay about you and your education & career goals.

English Proficiency Requirement

  • No TOEFL/IELTS is required for admission if you apply for the Intensive English program at Clover Park Technical College or if you have successfully completed the highest level of an accredited intensive English program at other U.S. schools.
  • TOEFL iBT61/PBT500/CBT173 or higher.
  • IELTS overall band score 5.5 or higher with no band score lower than 5.0.
    (Please request your test scores to be sent to us directly from ETS or IELTS. Some programs may require higher test scores. Please contact international program office staff for more details.)

For your protection and because of U.S. Privacy Act considerations, we ask that you sign a Release of Information statement prior to Release of personal information to third parties.

International Transfer Students

If you're currently attending another U.S. college and want to transfer to CPTC, you will need to:

  • Submit a CPTC international education application, following the instructions above and including the $50 fee.
  • Submit your transcripts. You'll need to request your official transcripts from any current or past colleges and have them sent directly to the CPTC International Education Office.
  • Submit copies of your I-20, I-94 and the visa page of your passport.
  • Submit a Transfer Eligibility Verification Form. This form must be completed by the adviser (DSO) at your current institution.

Intensive English Program

Study English at Clover Park Technical College! CPTC offers a high quality Intensive English program for international students who need to develop their English skills to a college level for academic study, or who simply want to learn more English.

A small class size allows instructors to provide you personalized attention and support. The Intensive English program will prepare you for academic study at CPTC as well as for a real life in the United States. Our highly qualified instructors have many years of experiences in teaching English to second language learners.

No TOEFL or IELTS Required for Admission

If you apply for the Intensive English program, no TOEFL or IELTS score is required for admission. Successful completion of Level 4 provides a pathway into one of the many professional technical programs offered at CPTC. Some programs may have additional admission requirements. Please contact the International Education Programs at for more information. There are four levels in the program and you will develop all four English skills - reading, writing, listening and speaking. All levels are 16 credits and 20 - 22 hours a week depending on a quarter.

You will take a placement test during a New International Student Orientation and the test results will determine your initial level.


Fall, winter and spring quarters (10 weeks):

You will attend classes for 20 hours a week, 5 hours a day, 4 days a week from Monday - Thursday.

Summer quarter (9 weeks): 

You will attend classes for 22 hours a week, 5.5 hours a day, 4 days a week from Monday – Thursday. Learning Support Services: FREE tutoring, computer lab, conversation partner with American students, student events, and more

About Clover Park Technical College

Housing Options

We offer three housing options for our international students.

  1. Homestay

    Living with an American host family provides you many benefits including learning English quicker! Your host family will provide you a safe living environment and a home away from home, and help you get a smooth transition to the American way of life. They also help you with various basic needs, such as opening a bank account, obtaining a WA driver’s license or WA identification card, teaching you how to ride a bus, etc. Experience American cultures, traditions and holiday celebrations with your host family! They may even take you on family outings such as movie, bowling, sports games, camping, hiking, and more!

    There is a homestay application fee of $275.00, which is non-refundable except in the case of visa denial.

    Standard Full Homestay

    The standard full homestay option comes with a fully furnished private room, free Wi-Fi, and two meals per day. The standard full homestay fee is $650 a month.

    Partial Homestay

    The partial homestay option comes with a fully furnish private room, free Wi-Fi, but no meal. The partial homestay fee is $500 a month. If you wish to apply for homestay, please contact the International Office staff at for more information.
  2. Residence Hall Living

    Clover Park Technical College partners with the Pierce College Center for Global Scholars (CGS) Residence Hall and CPTC international students are eligible to apply. The CGS Residence Hall is located 2.5 miles from CPTC Lakewood Campus. Both CPTC Lakewood Campus and CGS Residence Hall are conveniently located next to a bus stop for easy bus access and commute. All eligible CPTC students can get a FREE bus pass from CPTC Department of Student Life.

  3. Independent Living in Apartment near CPTC Campus
    (NOT recommended for students who are new to the U.S.)

    The average monthly rent ranges from $750 to $1,500, depending on number of bedrooms, size, location, and amenities. Additionally, students pay for their own food and utilities. Assistance is available for students who pay the International Housing Application Fee (currently $150, non-refundable, subject to change). Housing and other college fees are not inclusive. Costs are subject to change based on the local housing market.

    Clover Park Technical College partners with Echelon Apartments located just across the street from Lakewood Campus. CPTC international students can apply for lease in a streamlined application process. Please contact the International Office staff for more information.
