Diversity Course Standard Guidelines for CPTC
Awareness (3 required)
Students will develop an awareness of
1. Their own cultural heritage
2. Basic human rights of all people
3. How perceptions of differences among people affect our lives
4. Culture when looking at contemporary and historical moral problems and societal conflicts
Knowledge (2 required)
Students will develop knowledge and understanding of
1. Other cultures
2. Issues related to social/cultural experiences in age, ability, class, sex, gender, sexual orientation, religion and socioeconomic status
Skills (3 recommended)
Students will develop the ability to
1. Recognize various forms of ethnocentrism, prejudice, stereotypes and discrimination
2. Demonstrated skill in developing and maintain positive relationships with diverse groups and individuals
3. Exercise social skills necessary to work effectively with others on the job
4. Recognize, analyze and evaluate propaganda regarding diverse groups

1. Does the instructional materials, course outline, methods and assessment techniques reflect the learning styles of diverse student populations?
2. Does the instructional material reflect the use of universal design?
3. Does the course include the study of historical experiences, cultural patterns and social advantages/disadvantages of different groups within your field of study?
4. Does the course help students develop knowledge and skills necessary for effective interpersonal and group interactions with diverse populations?
5. Does the course promote values, attitudes, and behaviors that support cultural pluralism as a vital societal force and encompasses both potential strengths and potential conflicts?
6. Does the course include instructional materials written by, as well as about, persons from diverse groups?
7. Does the course include culturally diverse perspectives through guest speakers, multimedia or community events?
