A STEP mentor is a student (second semester and above) who has a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 and is volunteering their time and skills in order to have a positive impact on a new student's college experience.
We have two different Mentoring Models. Peer to Peer is College Student to College Student. Peer to Youth is College Student to High School/Middle School Student. If you are volunteering – you can choose which model you prefer to participate in – OR you can do both!
This depends on which avenue you take. If you apply to be a paid mentor you will be expected to work up to 12 hours per week. We ask that volunteer mentors commit to a minimum of 2 hours or more per week. You can mutually decide to meet face to face, on-line or on the phone if you are mentoring peer to peer, peer to youth mentoring will always occur on CPTC campus.
We are currently recruiting volunteer mentors for the Fall Quarter. Prior to becoming a volunteer mentor, applicants must be interviewed, successfully complete mentor training, and be available to mentor new students at the beginning of next quarter. If you are in the final semester of your program, unfortunately you are not eligible to become a mentor.
