Web Design Examples

We introduce students to web design by building a web page in notepad, using 12 words of code.

As we progress, students build web pages of increasing complexity using notepad and Photoshop, until each student has a 4 page website built around a subject of their choice. Students often choose to build a portfolio style website, though we have had students build web sites about gaming, poodles, and rock bands. We encourage students to pick a subject that interests them as that leads to a better web site. Students learn how to upload and manage their work on a live web server using browser based FTP and Dreamweaver FTP.

The second class of web design uses Adobe Dreamweaver to create a new and improved version of the same site, and this one frequently grows to 10 or more pages as students discover the power and speed Dreamweaver brings to writing XHTML. With Dreamweaver, we can add JavaScript functionality including pop-up windows, fly out menus, menu based CSS font control and simple php contact forms. This second web site is also built as an expandable interface to accommodate all monitor and browser configurations using the principles of liquid interface design. These are examples of web sites built by our students in the Dreamweaver class. These are screenshots of the web sites. If you would like to see the live, online web sites, contact Mark Webster or Bruce Dague for the links.
