Profile: Dr. John Walstrum
Dr. John Walstrum served as President of Clover Park Technical College, located in Lakewood, Washington from 2006 to 2013. He holds a Ph.D. in Industrial Education, Masters in Technical Education, and a Bachelors degree is Secondary Education – all received from the University of Maryland. He brought a solid background of experiences and accomplishments through education, training, economic development, fund raising, student affairs, and community service programs.
Prior to coming to CPTC, Dr. Walstrum was Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs at Central New Mexico Community College. He began his career as a faculty member at the Community Colleges of Baltimore and was a full-time post-secondary teaching faculty member in Electronics Technology for 15years. He worked his way through the ranks and became a Division Chair for Technical Studies. He then served as a vice president in the areas of academic and student affairs at two-year colleges for 14 years.
Dr. Walstrum is very involved in numerous community organizations and boards and is an active participant at the national level on initiatives related to workforce and economic development. He was president of the National Council on Workforce Education and a member of the Workforce Investment Board and Albuquerque Economic Development in New Mexico, USA.
Dr. Walstrum has established a reputation as a proactive leader in establishing and promoting new partnerships with regional universities, local school districts, major corporations, and community based organizations that are in the best interest of students. Dr. Walstrum’s career, as faculty and administrator, has been dedicated to the development and delivery of sound career, technical, and occupational post-secondary education programs.
