MEDICAL ASSISTANT THEORY & APPLICATION I

Caring for patients with disorders of the blood and of the reproductive, endocrine, sensory, and immune systems. Instruction will include anatomy and physiology, pathophysiology, pharmacology, and terminology. Instruction and practical includes self-breast exam, blood glucose monitoring, care and use of the microscope, blood typing, cell identification and staining along with practicing care and usage of the otoscope, ear/eye exams, and audiometry. Prerequisites: Successful completion of all Quarter 1 courses.
Learning Outcomes:- Define and describe the structures and functions of the reproductive systems, endocrine system, sensory system, and blood.
- Identify the most common pathological conditions affecting the reproductive systems, endocrine system, sensory system, and blood.
- Specify drug classifications related to the reproductive systems, endocrine system, sensory system, and blood.
- Build, analyze, define, pronounce and spell words related to the reproductive systems, endocrine system, sensory system, and blood.
- Cite diagnostic procedures commonly used in the reproductive systems, endocrine system, sensory system, and blood.
- Detail the essential components of the self breast exam.
- Perform self blood glucose monitoring, observing medical asepsis and aseptic technique, safety and CDC guidelines.
- Demonstrate the care and use of the microscope, the preparation and staining of push slides, blood typing, and hematocrit determination.
- Demonstrate the care and use of the ophthalmoscope and the otoscope.
- Perform audiometry testing and perform vision testing and record results.
- Participate in mock clinic at assigned level.
