Mental Health Assessment & Evaluation

Explores current perspectives of mental health in the helping professions by focusing on the identification, definition, diagnostic criteria, and the assessment and evaluation of psychological disorders. An emphasis will be placed on the continuum that exists between normal and abnormal behavior by examining biological, psychological and socio-cultural causal factors as they relate to adults and children.
Learning Outcomes:- Identify, explain and apply the primary methods for gathering information during an interview & assessment.
- Effectively utilize the DSM-IV to assess diagnostic criteria for a variety of mental disorders.
- Complete topical research and summarize through the use of existing research an analysis of issues relating to a specific interviewing topic.
- Effectively summarize client interactions using documentation styles commonly required in human services settings.
