What We Do
Designed to prepare students for careers involving the protection
of information on computers and networks against unauthorized access
or modification of information, and against the denial of service
to authorized users.
The vulnerability of unsecured personal data and the threat
of identity-based frauds nevertheless continue to grow and evolve as perpetrators
become more sophisticated in how they seek to obtain and exploit personal
information. That threat, and particularly the risk of synthetic identity fraud, poses real dangers for individuals, institutions, and the information economy. Action to combat that threat must be thoughtful, well targeted, and forward-looking if it is to guard against new risks and do so without compromising the information-based services that
the public increasingly enjoys and expects.
Includes those security measures, both physical and virtual,
necessary to detect, document, and counter such threats. Curriculum content
includes basic and advanced computer and networking skills, physical and
virtual security processes and procedures, and introduction to security
management, planning, and recovery.
Students completing the core program are required to
choose one of four options available to meet Degree Requirements.
(1) Business Continuity & Organizational Security;
(2) Computer and Communications Security;
(3) Network Security, Firewalls and Detection Systems
(4) Windows Operating Systems & Security.
The CISS program is certified for cyber-security skills
education through the National Security Agencies, Committee on National
Systems Security. Two certifications have been awarded to the program; CNSS
4011 National Training Standards for Information Systems Security Professionals
and the CNSS 4013 National Training Standard for System Administrators in
Information Systems Security.
The program includes preparing students for the A+, Network+,
Server+, Security+, i-Net+ , Linux+ and CCNA, CCSP & MCSA certification examinations and cooperative work experience.
Employers include business and industrial firms, financial institutions, government agencies, consulting firms, software developers, health providers and Internet service providers.
Innovations in computer technology continue to rapidly
change and expand the computer security field. Therefore, the following
courses of study may be subject to change in order to offer students training
based on current industry standards.
Included in this program are academic courses in communication
(English composition, speech), quantitative reasoning (math) and
social sciences (Psychology, Sociology) that provide knowledge and abilities
upon which technical skills are built and enhance personal development
